Our periodontal services include periodic cleanings, fluoride treatments, and scaling/root planing. In some cases, additional medicaments are utilized, including antibiotics, to assist with our therapy. In our office, we provide non-surgical periodontal therapy and management. Depending upon the severity of periodontal disease, we may recommend more frequent cleanings, the application of fluorides or scaling/root planing. Chronic bleeding sites and bone loss indicate active disease and the necessity for intervention. Scaling and root planing allows us to remove deposits and bacteria on root surfaces that conventional tooth brushing and flossing cannot. Our goal is to reduce the inflammatory process so the patient is able to clean thoroughly around every tooth. There are some instances, however, when the intervention of a periodontist is required, specifically in situations that involve pocket depths that cannot be maintained or negative changes in bone levels. Because most people lose teeth due to periodontal disease, we monitor the gum and bone health of our patients very closely.
