The high predictability of success with dental implants, in many cases, provides this option as an alternative to fixed bridgework or removable partial dentures. The advantages of a dental implant are that teeth adjacent to a missing tooth site are not required to be included in the restoration and that the implant fixture (anchor) acts like a root providing support for the crown over it. Also, if the implant crown ever needs replacement, only one restoration is affected instead of multiple units with bridgework.
