In our practice, we offer directly placed and indirect cosmetic restorations.

Direct:
Directly placed fillings are used in situations where a minimum amount of tooth structure requires replacement. This type of restoration replaces applications where silver-amalgam was previously utilized (bicuspids and molars) or in front teeth that have decay or small fillings that are leaking. The material is really a hybrid, consisting of a component for bonding and another for strength. These fillings are very esthetic, have respectable longevity, and can be completed in one office visit.

Indirect:
Indirect fillings are recommended when a significant amount of tooth structure requires replacement and more strength is needed than a direct restoration can provide. Because these restorations are created in a laboratory, impressions of the dental preparations are required as well as temporary fillings. At the time of delivery, the one-piece fillings are affixed to the prepared teeth with a special bonding process. The material used for indirect cosmetic restorations is either porcelain or a hybrid resin. The advantages of this technique are strength, fit and the conservative nature of the preparations.
